Dreaming a dream, from a little white pill
Scent of blood and stale sweat on my tongue
And here I lie
In the arms of a stranger, with a mother's warning words in my head,
Stranger danger,
'Be careful of the man with the candy,
The man in the car.
Be aware of anyone walking to close
Don't let my baby go near a stranger'
A mother's prayer for her baby girl
Breakable fragile girl
Yet here I am, surrounded by strangers,
Sleeping with them, among them.
Wandering and trying to find that aching hole.
Maybe this needle will do the trick.
Another stranger, A flare of pain,
Perfect subtleties playing across bruised flesh
Not this time, not near enough
Another white pill, another dream of ecstasy,
Only to come to, alone
Not even a stranger to comfort me.
Can you hear me mommy?
I've gotten lost in the night,
False light and brilliant colors,
But if I open my mouth I can still taste
The scent of blood and stale sweat
Arms wrapped tight
Trying to find that perfect someone
A perfect stranger,
Always new, never old
Far enough away,
But close enough
To hold me tight without rubbing against the scars.
Another shot, and here I go
Once more into the breach,
Looking for my perfect stranger.
